Typhoon Studios and 505 Games unveiled Journey to the Savage Planet at The Game Awards 2018 tonight with a trailer showcasing a bit of the title’s atmosphere. While we don’t know much about this first-person sci-fi adventure, it looks like it may follow in the footsteps of games like No Man’s Sky, albeit on a more contained level.
Journey to the Savage Planet is Typhoon Games’ first title and has you playing the role of an employee of Kindred Aerospace. The trailer spotlights a video featuring a Kindred Aerospace employee touting the company’s status as the “4th Best Interstellar Exploration Company.” Unfortunately for you, we hear alarm klaxons ring out that show why the company may be stuck at 4th best.
As the game begins your ship has crashed on a planet far away from civilization, and the only thing you can really do is your job. You’ll have to explore the titular savage world and see if it’s suitable for human habitation. This means you’ll have to catalog the local flora and fauna to see if they’re suitable for human consumption (or if they want to consume humans) and attempt to survive the harsh realities of being so far from home.
