Modern Warfare 4 Leak

No, That Modern Warfare 4 Leak Isn’t Credible

A purported Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 leak has popped up on the Internet. Unfortunately, it’s not a very credible leak. With the relatively healthy success of Call of Duty Black Ops 4, fans are keen on hearing what the next game in the series will be. It’s never easy to guess, but a fourth game in the Modern Warfare series wouldn’t be a half-bad idea. A Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 leak has popped up on Reddit, purporting to show a menu that lets you select your edition of the game.

The above image was taken from the /r/CallOfDuty subreddit and it shows what the poster states is a Photoshop analysis tool. Analyzing software can occasionally tell if a photo has been manipulated and it would throw up noticeable artifacts. The bottom right quadrant of the image (which is supposedly the analysis) shows no such artifacts or other problems.

If this is a reliable analysis, it would indeed be true that the above image hasn’t been manipulated with Photoshop in any way. However, there are plenty of other ways to manipulate a photo just as easily as I will now demonstrate.

I simply popped over to the Call of Duty website where I noticed a menu that was practically identical to the one in the supposed Modern Warfare 4 leak. From there, all I had to do was right-click on the menu item and go to “Inspect Element” in Chrome. I then replaced the original text in the image with the lyrics from the 1982 J. Geils Band hit Centerfold.

It took me about 60 seconds to alter the text in the above menus via Chrome’s Inspect Element functionality. Suffice to say, this particular Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 leak is extremely suspect and unlikely to be genuine in any fashion. We may very well be seeing another entry in the Modern Warfare franchise, but this instance of a “leak” probably isn’t the sign we’ve been hoping for.
