Fortnite is very popular, in case you haven’t heard. This year’s Google Trends list cements that even further, as it was the highest trending game on Google in the United States for 2018.
Google has released their yearly top ten trend list, with the extremely popular battle royale game at the very top of the gaming list. Fortnite also was ranked number one in another list, taking the top spot in the most searched GIFs of the year.
It’s no real surprise: Fortnite has amassed millions in sales over the last year, with the mobile version of the game at one point raking in $15 million in one month. Developer Epic Games is now valued at over $8 billion thanks in part to the game’s incredible success.
Red Dead Redemption 2 earned the second place spot on the list. Another top fall release, Fallout 76, came in third. Red Dead earned critical acclaim upon release, with our own Jason Faulkner giving the game a 5 out of 5 in our review scale.
“The astounding thing about RDR 2 is that there’s not only a staggering amount of story, side quests, and places to explore but that it’s all high quality and doesn’t feel tacked on,” he wrote in the review. “The high level of craftsmanship in this game is evident in all its aspects, and it’s genuinely one of the best games of this generation of gaming.”
Fallout 76, meanwhile, did not get the same accolades—it’s currently averaging a 53 on Metacritic. A post on a private law firm’s website at one point sought out gamers hoping to join a lawsuit accusing developer Bethesda of participating in deceitful practices due to how buggy the game was upon release. There have also been complaints regarding the collector’s edition of the game, notably how the bag included with the game looked remarkably different than it did in images prior to release.
God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Sea of Thieves, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Kingdom Come: Deliverance and browser game Zombs Royale rounded off the top ten Google Trends gaming list.
