red dead redemption reclaims top uk sales chart position

Red Dead Redemption 2 Returns to the Top of the UK Charts

After a week of strong sales, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate wasn’t able to retain the number one spot on the UK charts this past week for physical sales.

According to the list (h/t gameindustry.biz) Red Dead Redemption 2 instead clawed back to the top slot, pushing back Smash a few places down. FIFA 19 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 scored second and third place, respectively. Smash Bros. Ultimate eventually settled in at number 4, while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe finished in fifth place.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Battlefield V, Forza Horizon 4, Spider-Man and Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy rounded out the top ten list.

While Smash Bros. seems like it took a giant fall compared to its first place finish last week, sales only dropped 52 percent, which is better than usual for a second week decline. Looking at console sales, The Switch will likely be a hot seller this holiday season, with Pokemon Let’s Go: Pikachu, Super Mario Party, Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild all receiving sales increases over the last week.

PlayStation VR games also got a boost this week thanks to promotion and marketing over the VR Mega Pack. PlayStation VR Worlds, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Skyrim VR, WipeOut: Omega Collection and Doom VR all got a nice boost over the last week.

While Smash Bros. has received praise, earning a 93 on Metacritic, Red Dead Redemption 2 also received mass critical acclaim upon release last month, which may play into the game’s impressive sales. Its long-term shelf-life will also impress Rockstar, who has recently introduced the Red Dead Online multiplayer component to the game, and may hint at why its continued success shows no signs of slowing down.

So, get back on that horse: there’s plenty more cowboys to rustle up both in Red Dead Online and beyond.
