One of the newest favorite incarnations of the friendly neighborhood superhero Spider-Man is breaking onto a new medium. The Peter Parker we met in the recent video game edition of Insomniac’s Marve’s Spider-Man is heading back to his roots. That means that the PS4 Spider-Man is getting his own comic book that will hit shelves this March.
The new comic series will explore the same story that was featured in the PS4 Spider-Man game. The series titled Marvel’s Spider-Man: City of War will expand on the original series with new content and behind the scenes looks.
This setup means that we’re getting a fairly well established Spidey who has been protecting New York City for eight years. He’s taken down his fair share of bad guys and is a relatively seasoned superhero.
“While creating the game, the writing team’s goal was to pay homage to Spider-Man’s rich history while also shaking things up to keep players on the edge of their seats,” said Marvel Games executive creative director Bill Rosemann. “Now we’re thrilled to see our game’s original story swing full circle and come to life in the pages of this all-new comic book series in the Mighty Marvel Manner!”
Issue one of the PS4 Spider-Man’s City of War series will be penned by Dennis Hopeless who is not new to webslingers, having also written some of Marvel’s Spider-Woman series. It will feature art by Michele Bandini who has contributed to many of the X-Men Gold series and many other Marvel titles. The covers and their variants will be by Clayton Crain, Tim Tsang, David Nakayama, Gerardo Sandoval, and Adi Granov.
This comic will be the first in a set of new stories that are aiming to grow Marvel’s “Gamerverse,” which is, as the title implies, its universe of video games.
