Fallout 4 Capital Wasteland mod is back!

Fallout 4 Capital Wasteland Mod Returns; Team Commits to Record Nearly 45,000 Voice Lines

A Fallout 4 mod aiming to bring Fallout 3 to the new game engine is back on track after a long hiatus. Fallout 4 Capital Wasteland posted a new update yesterday, committing to recording nearly 45,000 voice lines for the Fallout 3-based Fallout 4 mod.

Fallout 4 Capital Wasteland was put on hold in March 2018 because Bethesda can’t grant rights to Fallout 3‘s voice acting. Voice acting is licensed by game companies, and as such these companies cannot allow any dialogue to be imported to other games. Yesterday HcGxGrill, one of the leads on the Capital Wasteland mod, announced that development had resumed. After putting the project on hold in March, most of the team the team walked away, but HcGxGrill and a few others kept working at it. Now the team has put out a call for voice actors, level designers, artists, and more to help produce the mod.

Fallout 4 Capital Wasteland is a total conversion mod for Bethesda’s 2015 action RPG. The mod is similar to other projects including Fallout 4 New Vegas and Fallout: Tale of Two Wastelands that attempt to shove one Fallout game into another’s engine. Fallout 4 New Vegas had a similar voiceover snag recently, although that team has already started to record new voice lines.

Fallout 3 was the first game Bethesda developed in the Fallout series. The game was released in 2008, and was positively received at the time. It features voice acting from celebrities including Liam Neeson, Ron Perlman, and Malcolm McDowell. The Fallout 4 Capital Wasteland team now has to find voice actors willing to work for little-to-no-money to fill these now-iconic roles.

The Fallout 4 mod is slowly making progress as its small but dedicated team chips away at the gargantuan title. Joining HcGxGrill on the mod team is Unoctium, acting as the voice acting lead. Unoctium is a modder in the Fallout community who authored several armor sets for Fallout 4. HcGxGrill was a developer on the Tale of Two Wastelands mod. New screenshots showcase the Brotherhood of Steel’s Citadel, Vault 101, Vault 87, and the Museum of Technology.
