343 Industries says ‘exciting’ Master Chief Collection news coming at SXSW 2019

Ahead of the South by Southwest (SXSW) 2019 event, developer 343 Industries is making some interesting waves regarding Halo: The Master Chief Collection, saying that ‘exciting’ news is forthcoming.

According to a blog post on Halo Waypoint, news regarding the Master Chief Collection will be announced during the Halo Championship Series Invitational, which is being held at SXSW starting on March 15 and will run through the 17th.

“If you are not able to make it [the event], be sure to tune in to Mixer and Twitch each day at 12:00 p.m. CT,” the post says. “Not only will you be treated to amazing matches and gameplay, but we’ve also got some exciting Master Chief Collection news to reveal during the show.”

What kind of news this year’s SXSW event will bring is anyone’s guess, but it could very likely be multiplayer-related considering there will be a number of multiplayer Halo tournaments being held during the expo. According to the blog post, the HCS Invitational will have six teams battling it out in a double elimination bracket for a chance to win $100,000 in prizes.

The Master Chief Collection, which is a compilation of the first four Halo games, was released for the Xbox One back in November of 2014. The game has been updated a number of times since its release, with the latest arriving back in August, which included options to download specific titles and also includes Xbox One X enhancements. It was made available on Xbox Game Pass around the same time.

Halo: Infinite, the sixth entry in the Halo franchise, was announced back at last year’s E3 event. There is no current release date, but speculation has been rampant about what the new entry in the series could bring, such as microtransactions and loot boxes. There’s even speculation that it could be a single-player game at launch, with multiplayer coming at a later date.

The SXSW event, which features a number of music festivals and other activities, will be held at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.
