Dead Space 4 Reportedly Canceled Because DS3 Failed To Reach Sales Targets [Update: EA Says It’s “False”]

[UPDATE]: Gamasutra has been informed by EA that this report is "patently false."

[Original Story]: Pre-production on Dead Space 4 has been canceled, if a recent report proves to be true. According to VideoGamer, an unnamed source with inside information on the project told the outlet that because Dead Space 3 didn't reach the sales targets EA had set in place, the fourth game was scrapped.

The report goes on to add that Visceral Montreal was told about the cancelation last month alongside the announcement of EA's plans to restructure. Not only that but the source claims that Dead Space 3 "was almost canceled" during development, and EA told Visceral to make the game more action-heavy to reach a wider audience.

The publisher was expecting the game to sell somewhere around the 5 million mark and apparently that goal was not reached. Keep in mind that EA has yet to confirm any of this, so take this report with a grain of salt for the time being. That said, are you sad to see the Dead Space franchise possibly go?
