Take-Two earnings report

The Take-Two earnings report says there’s ‘more to share,’ about a mystery new game this year

The recent Take-Two earnings report referenced a new mystery game that has been in the works for a while, suggesting that we might get more information or even a full reveal later this year. The report says that 2K is still confident of a 2020 release date for the project, though just what it is is very much up for grabs.

The earnings report saw Take-Two waxing lyrical about a how much success it had last year, both with Red Dead Redemption 2, NBA 2K19, and who could forget just how profitable Grand Theft Auto V still is? But as the meeting turned its attention to what’s to come, Take-Two’s president, Karl Slatoff said, “The unannounced title from one of 2K’s biggest and most beloved franchise remains on track for launch during fiscal 2020. 2K will have more to share in the coming months.”

Just what this mystery game is has been subject to a lot of speculation for a while. Though the inclusion of the project being part of one of the biggest and most beloved franchise, has refined the scope of that discussion to two series, Borderlands or BioShock. A return to either series would be a welcome one for fans, with some having expected a reveal of Borderlands 3 at E3 2018 to no avail. Considering all speculation of the rumored third installment has pretty much died down, it only works to strengthen the claim to a new BioShock title being the franchise that Slatoff is referring to. In a report about the fall of Mafia 3, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier went so far as to say that former Mafia 3 devs were, “moved to the top-secret studio next door to work on an unannounced new BioShock game,” a claim that may very well turn out to be the case.

We can’t be 100 percent sure what 2K is working on but by the sounds of things, we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out.
