Xbox One backwards compatibility gets a helping of Capcom titles today. The Lost Planet series and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X are now available to play on the Xbox One.
Xbox’s Larry Hryb announced the games’ addition to the Xbox One backwards compatibility program earlier today. The games join an expansive list of over 500 backwards compatible games available on the Xbox One. Lost Planet, Lost Planet 2, Lost Planet 3, Lost Planet Colonies, and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X are all now playable on the Xbox One family of devices. The Code Veronica release is the 2011 HD remaster originally made available on the Xbox 360.
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition was released on the Xbox 360 in December 2006 in Japan, with a worldwide release a few weeks later in January 2007. The third-person over-the-shoulder shooter features large aliens called Akrid that prominently displayed glowing weak points to attack. The game’s frigid setting played into the gameplay, with players needing to manage thermal energy to stay alive. Mech suits known as Vital Suits were also available for players to use. Lost Planet Colonies is a version of this title released at a later date with new modes and content.
Lost Planet 2 released in May 2010 and much of the gameplay from its predecessor returned. Unlike the first game, Lost Planet 2 is set on a more temperate planet, and as such players do not have to manage thermal energy. The game is faster paced than its predecessor and featured many more massive alien enemies. Lost Planet 2 also features four-player co-op.
Lost Planet 3 moved the series to Unreal Engine 3, and was a more linear story-focused game. The game was developed by Spark Unlimited, unlike the previous titles which were developed by Capcom. The prequel was released in 2013 to modest reviews.
Resident Evil Code: Veronica X is an extended version of Code: Veronica, originally released on the Dreamcast in 2000. The survival horror game was released to critical acclaim in 2000, and its extended version was similarly well-received. The Xbox 360 HD remaster was published in 2011.
Xbox One backwards compatible games can be bought from the Xbox Live Marketplace, or downloaded after inserting the game disc.
