Fortnite World Cup 2019 details revealed, $100,000,000 prize pool

Fortnite World Cup 2019 details have been revealed by Epic Games. The 2019 tournament will feature a prize pool of $100,000,000. There isn’t long to wait to get involved. The beginning of the qualifiers is less than two months way, starting on April 13 and running until June 16. The tournament begins online with the very best Fortnite players being invited to compete in person later in the year.

The information about the Fortnite World Cup 2019 was announced in a blog post by Epic Games. The post states that the tournament begins with ten weekly “Online Open” qualifiers. Each week during the qualifiers, $1,000,000 will be distributed between successful Fortnite players. The big event, the Fortnite World Cup Finals, will take place in New York City on July 26-28. The event will see the top 100 solo players and top 50 duos compete for a share of a remaining $30,000,000 prize pool. Just getting to the finals guarantees the player $50,000, while the overall solo champion will be presented with $3,000,000.

The rest of the cash will be awarded in cash tournaments throughout 2019. The tournaments will involve different modes to give a wide opportunity to players of different abilities. Epic Games states “we will also provide tournament tools and prizing to select partners to better serve competitive Fortnite in more countries and regions.” The Fortnite World Cup Finals organizers also invite fans to come along to the New York City event even if they aren’t a player of Fortnite Battle Royale. “We’ll be hosting additional events at the Fortnite World Cup Finals featuring fun custom challenges in different modes and formats.”

The post concludes with rules about who can participate in the tournament. The rules dictate players must be at least 13 years old, laws in some countries may raise the requirement age. Also, players younger than 17 years old still require parental permission. Other rules related to not having any prior violations of Epic’s policies.

The Fortnite World Cup 2019 announcement is sure to drum up even more buzz for Epic Games’ battle royale title, which recently hit its highest number of concurrent players during the in-game Marshmello concert.
