Less than 24 hours after we got the sad news that Reggie Fils-Aime will be retiring from his position as the head of Nintendo of America in April, the internet has activated. The internet answered the call when it was revealed Fils-Aime’s replacement as the new Nintendo boss was Bowser, Doug Bowser. Far from being a place to let a happy coincidence past it by, the world of memes pounced.

The new Nintendo boss Bowser began working for Nintendo of America in 2015. He joined the company from EA after working there for eight years, leaving his role as Vice President of Global Demand Planning. Nintendo of America got in ahead of all the jokes with a tweet about Bowser being hired which featured everyone’s favorite plumbing brothers in a bit of a compromising situation:

Following the news of Reggie Fils-Aime’s departure, Bowser gave a statement. “It has been my great fortune to work with and be mentored by Reggie for four years at Nintendo of America. And rest assured, we will continue to build on his work to evolve and expand our brand, furthering Nintendo’s global mission of creating smiles. There are millions more of those to come.” Fils-Aime’s departing words included the line, “Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever.”
