Even though some of our colleagues jumped the gun, Starhawk has just lifted off into the officially announced stratosphere. Developed by Dylan Jobe's Lightbox Interactive, Starhawk will be releasing exclusively on the PlayStation 3 some time in 2012.
Starhawk isn't quite a sequel to Warhawk, but does offer a bunch of similarities. There's the flagship "Hawks", but instead of just being standard aircraft, they're mech suits that your character can assume control of, taking to the sky to do battle.
Unlike Warhawk, Starhawk will feature single-player missions. Although the game's real bread and butter is the 32-player multiplayer and the extensive online feature set.
Sony's choice in revealing such an online focused game while their network is currently down is a little confusing to say the least. But don't let PSN woes put a damper on Starhawk's red-hot flame of awesome.
We'll be getting our hands on the game in less than a month at Sony's E3 booth, but for now, take a look at the official debut trailer for some gameplay footage:
