House of Ashes

‘House of Ashes’ trademarked by Supermassive Games

The studio behind Until Dawn and Hidden Agenda has acquired a new trademark. “House of Ashes” has been trademarked by Supermassive Games in the US and Europe. In August 2018, the studio also trademarked “Shattered States.” There is currently no confirmation regarding what these trademarks will be used for.

According to Gematsu, the Shattered States and House of Ashes trademarks may be related to the studio’s upcoming title The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan. The studio has stated The Dark Pictures is an anthology series. However, there still remains the possibility that these new trademarks are for completely different titles.

The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan is a new cinematic horror game produced by the studio. Man of Medan will be set on a ghost ship and looks set to build upon Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn formula. The game’s official PlayStation page confirms as much, promising “a new terrifying experience” and asking “can you save them all?” and “what will you do to survive?” Similar to Until Dawn, the game will feature young Americans and interactions with a psychologist.

This time, the unsuspecting group is hunting for sunken treasure before encountering a storm aboard a ghost ship. The group is then required to explore the vessel and tackle its haunting presences in order to find a way to escape. An eerie trailer was unveiled at Gamescom 2018. The trailer introduces us to the characters before things quickly descend into chaos. We also see the studio’s new visuals for Man of Medan, including significantly improved character models compared to the game’s previous titles.

The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan is slated for release on an as yet unannounced date in 2019 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The ghost ship setting of the game has a long history in horror movies, we explored the history in advance of The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan.
