Despite the PlayStation 3 having a number of big budget exclusive titles like the Uncharted franchise, one thing that helped the console stand out was the support for Indie developers, which resulted in games such as the award-winning Journey and The Unfinished Swan. Not only is Sony following suit with supporting Indie developers on the PS4, they are continuing to expand their efforts in the Indie space.
In addition to an accessible SDK and the PlayStation Pub Fund, Sony has removed the approval process, allowing developers to self-publish their games.
Already, this has garnered interest from developers, leading to the announcement of Zombie Studios' Blacklight: Retribution and Lukewarm Media's Primal Carnage: Genesis for the PS4. The two titles will join Jonathan Blow's The Witness among the first self-published titles on the PS4.
The hilarious Divekick and a new puzzle game called Metrico, were also announced for PlayStation platforms as part of this new initiative. Metrico will be a PS Vita exclusive.
All of these titles will be added to a strong Indie line-up Sony already has on the horizon, which includes the following titles:
- Sportsfriends
- Guacamelee!
- Dragon Fantasy Book Two
- Ibb & Obb
- Hotline Miami
- Luftrausers
- Velocity Ultra
- Thomas Was Alone
- Zombie Tycoon 2: Brainhov’s Revenge
Look for GameRevolution previews of some of these select titles later this week as part of our ongoing GDC coverage.
