Gwent Crimson Curse expansion

Gwent Crimson Curse expansion announced

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is getting its first expansion this month. CD Projekt Red announced the Crimson Curse expansion today. The Gwent Crimson Curse expansion will bring over 100 new cards to the game and focuses on vampires and will be out on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on March 28.

Gwent Crimson Curse focuses its new cards around Dettlaff van der Eretein, the vampire antagonist of The Witcher 3: Blood and WineAnnounced today the expansion sees Dettlaff and his vampire kin rise under a blood moon to wage war in the collectible card game.

As the first expansion to Gwent, Crimson Curse brings a lot of new content to the game. Over 100 cards — 14 faction cards per faction and over 30 neutral cards — are expanding the game’s deck compositions. New archetypes and strategies will become viable with the new cards included in the Crimson Curse expansion.

New offensive mechanics coming to the game include Poison and Bleeding, and new defensive abilities include Shield and Vitality. Other new mechanics include the Deathblow and Berserk card abilities. Each ability has specific strengths and weaknesses and will invariably shake up the game’s meta.

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game has undergone major changes since the standalone free-to-play card game spun off from The Witcher 3. Fans of Gwent in The Witcher 3 will see a number of familiar mechanics, but many new cards and mechanics have changed the flow of matches significantly. One major change to the game was reducing the number of rows from three to two, and changing how cards interact depending on the row. The mechanical change caused a significant shift in how Gwent is played, altering the game’s flow and play strategies.

An overhauled presentation gives the standalone Gwent its own unique look, with each card having animated variants and more. The standalone Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales released last October, and is a single-player, story-driven experience that used Gwent mechanics at its core.
