World of Warcraft Classic content will release in six phases

The plans for World of Warcraft Classic content has been changed according to an announcement from Blizzard Entertainment Community Manager Kaivax. Previously, the Classic version of Blizzard’s blockbuster MMO was going to have its content released in four phases. The game’s content release plan has now been expanded to a total of six phases based on player feedback and internal discussion.

Aside from the number of phases changing, the World of Warcraft Classic content plan has also had some elements moved around. As an example, the original First Phase was planned to launch with Onyxia and Molten Core. However, Blizzard has decided to hold off on launching the Dire Maul region because the loot that can be gained there can have a serious impact on other raids. Kazzak and Azuregos are being held back for similar reasons.

Here is the current World of Warcraft Classic content release plan:

Phase 1 (Classic Launch)

  • Molten Core
  • Onyxia
  • Maraudon

Phase 2

  • Dire Maul
  • Azuregos
  • Kazzak

Phase 3

  • Blackwing Lair
  • Darkmoon Faire
  • Darkmoon deck drops begin

Phase 4

  • Zul’Gurub
  • Green Dragons

Phase 5

  • Ahn’Qiraj War Effort begins
  • Ahn’Qiraj raids open when the war effort dictates
  • Dungeon loot reconfiguration: Tier 0.5 Dungeon gear, Relics, drop rates and location changes

Phase 6

  • Naxxramas
  • Scourge Invasion

The above list is the current plan for releasing content, but it isn’t set it stone. After all, the devs just expanded four phases into six and moved around a bunch of planned content. You may also notice that PvP content isn’t really addressed in the World of Warcraft Classic content phases—the developers are holding those cards close to their chest for the moment.

World of Warcraft Classic will be launching sometime in summer 2019. This launch will contain the content in Phase 1, but we don’t yet have a timetable for Phases 2-6. In the meantime, Blizzard Entertainment is paying close attention to community feedback and will update the fans as soon as they have more details to share. You can read more about these updates in the forum post by Kaivax.
