Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered changes revealed, Switch version detailed

While the next new Assassin’s Creed is over a year away, Ubisoft is preparing for the launch of the next old Assassin’s Creed game. Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered is coming out on March 29 (for most platforms) and Ubisoft finally spilled more details on what new features that remaster will contain. Aside from visual changes, it will also include some new gameplay features and costumes from later games in the series.

First and foremost, Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered will feature graphical upgrades and have denser crowds. This means that the game will run at 4K in HDR and have improved textures, lighting, and skin shading. While visual changes are par for the course for remasters, Ubisoft’s comparison video shows that this looks like big improvement over what the company did for the Ezio Collection that was re-released in 2016. That collection didn’t include any gameplay improvements but it did have some unfortunately ugly faces, which led to it being mocked online.

Ubisoft had previously stated that Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered would have “gameplay changes,” but never gave further details. The recent blog post and video, however, finally did. Stealth has been expanded as players can now whistle from brushes and hay bales to lure enemies over and perform double hidden blade assassinations from the back. Ubisoft said it hopes that this gives the game a better balance between brawling and sneaking.

But there are more gameplay changes as well. Players will now be able to free aim with the bow, a feature that was introduced the game’s sequel, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. Previously, it was lock-on based, which isn’t as precise and is more in line with current entries. The UI has also been modernized in unspecific ways, which includes a mini-map that is more geared toward colorblind players. Ubisoft also “made a pass” on all the main missions so players could “better follow the story,” but exact changes were not given.

New costumes will also be included. The examples given were the outfits from Bayek, Alexios, and Aguilar, who are the protagonists from Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and the 2016 Assassin’s Creed film, respectively,

The Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered Switch version will also see specific changes. It will have HD rumble, motion control for stuff like aiming, and the UI will fully work with the touch screen and change for docked and mobile modes. However, this version will release on May 21, which is almost two months after its release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One. It can be purchased separately and is included with the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey season pass along with Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation Remastered. It is unknown if any of these changes will work their way into that game as well.
