No Man's Sky Beyond

No Man’s Sky Beyond revealed, to feature “radical new social and multiplayer experience”

No Man’s Sky Beyond has been announced. Hello Games has revealed the next step for its procedurally-generated space exploration game in a blog post. In the post, Hello Games founder Sean Murray provided details for the “huge new expansion” coming in the summer.

No Man’s Sky Online will be the first part of the Beyond update and is a “radical new social and multiplayer experience.” Murray states they don’t believe No Man’s Sky is an MMO and, as such, there will be no subscription or microtransactions. Murray adds: “These changes are an answer to how we have seen people playing since the release of NEXT, and is something we’ve dreamed of for a long time.”

There will be two more “massive” updates as part of the No Man’s Sky Beyond expansion. The post explains the studio will divulge more about the future updates over the coming weeks “when we know we can be more precise.” No Man’s Sky was shrouded in controversy upon its release due to the belief that the studio made unsubstantiated claims about the game during its promotion.

The blog post came along with a short trailer for the Beyond expansion. The 30-second trailer doesn’t show anything notable, but concludes by confirming the title of the expansion and that it will be a “Free update for existing players.” Murray states No Man’s Sky Beyond is Hello Games’ “most ambitious chapter so far” and that it plans on supporting No Man’s Sky for the “foreseeable future.”

The launch of No Man’s Sky‘s last previous update, NEXT, led to a large rise in players for the game. The NEXT update added things like a third-person camera, a revamp of the game’s mission system, and new ways to build bases. Many changes have been made to No Man’s Sky and it is likely to continue with the Beyond expansion. However, if No Man’s Sky just isn’t your cup of tea, we compiled a list of similar space games you can try.
