Iron Man VR coming to PS4 later this year

Iron Man’s fate may be fuzzy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but at least he will live on in his new PS4 game. Iron Man VR is coming to PS4 later this year and will be a virtual reality game from Camoflaj, the studio behind the stealth thriller, Republique. Marvel Games and PlayStation Worldwide Studios are also helping with the project.

There is not much known about the game since the website revealed at the end of the trailer is not currently live. However, it does link to Sony’s website.

Sony revealed this in its State of Play stream, a video in the style of a Nintendo Direct. The trailer was shown from Tony Stark’s perspective as his plane gets blown out of the sky and dons his iconic suit. It also showed Iron Man blasting robots in the sky, but it was not real gameplay. It shouldn’t be surprising but Robert Downey Jr. is not voicing Tony Stark.

Director Ryan Payton came to the PlayStation Blog to discuss the game. He revealed that the game has been in development for two years and will be “more than just an origin story.” While vague, the story will stand up to Stark and ensure that he “confronts ghosts from his past — powerful forces who seek to ruin him and everything he stands for.” The game also contains a new suit called the Impulse Armor and it was designed by Marvel illustrator and costume designer, Adi Granov. Aside from those details, Payton also described how he wants players to feel playing the game.

“From the very first day on the project, our team in Seattle has maintained an unwavering commitment to leverage the strengths of VR while enabling players to feel like the world-famous hero,” he said.  “We have focused on making flying, shooting, and epic Super Hero actions feel natural and powerful on PlayStation VR. When you get your hands on the game later this year, I hope that you, like those on the team who have played early development versions of the game, take off your PS VR headset, smile, and say, ‘Wow… I feel like Iron Man!’”
