New Call of Duty has already been played by athletes

It seems that Activision has given some select folks a chance to play the new Call of Duty before the studio officially announces it. A number of American athletes have posted on social media that they have played the new game at a private event.

Riley Ridley, Tajae Sharpe, and N’Keal Harry have all shared photos of themselves at what seems to be a private Activision event in Nashville, TN. The photos include them actually sitting down and playing the game.

Sadly, none of the photos, which were compiled by All Games Delta, actually show the game. Of course, if this is real and not just an elaborate ruse, Activision most likely forbade the athletes from taking photos or videos of the game in question.

Activision traditionally announces the next annual Call of Duty installment in May. The footballers then could have attended this event as part of the lead up to the announcement of this year’s game. With this in mind, Activision could be planning to reveal this year’s installment within the next few weeks.

Last years’ Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was first shown off at a reveal event on May 17, 2018. Treyarch was the studio that worked on that game. Infinity Ward, on the other hand, is developing this year’s installment. The team previously worked on 2016’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. More importantly, the studio also created 2007’s breakout hit Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. This is important as rumors point to this year’s game being Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

Whatever this new Call of Duty is, it will mark the return of a single-player campaign to the series. Activision president Rob Kostich confirmed as much in the company’s quarterly earnings call. This also likely means that the developers will be removing the Blackout battle royale mode that replaced the single-player campaign in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
