The recently-announced Bloodborne board game has been warmly accepted by fans on Kickstarter, raising more than $1.6 million in the first two days of the campaign. Board game publisher CMON launched the project on Kickstarter with a stated goal of $200,000 in funding by May 14, 2019. They’ve raised that and then some! The campaign for the Bloodborne board game is currently at more than 800% of its initial goal — and the number is still going up.
Bloodborne is a video game that’s very much in the vein of stuff like Dark Souls, something that’s not really a surprise considering that the game’s designer Hidetaka Miyazaki is the same person who unleashed Demon Souls and Dark Souls upon the world. Mr. Miyazaki’s most recent game is Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, a game that’s basically “Dark Souls, but with samurai and ninjas.” Hey, you can’t blame a dude for knowing what he likes.
The challenging gameplay of Bloodborne has been adapted to a tabletop game for 1–4 players. Players will explore the town of Yharnam in search of monsters to destroy. The town itself is represented by 20 game tiles which are placed as you play; this means that each gameplay session will be a little different every time. You’ll play through three “Chapters” in the course of the game, hoping to find the source of the madness taking over Yharnham without falling victim to the various calamities before you. An early version of the game’s rulebook is available if you’d like to see how the Bloodborne board game will play out in more detail.
The Bloodborne board game is yet another entry in the growing trend of video games being adapted to the tabletop. The Resident Evil board game Kickstarter and Dark Souls board game Kickstarter (both created by Steamforged Games) exceeded their stated campaign goals by several hundred percent.
The upcoming Bloodborne board game is the 37th Kickstarter created by CMON. If the game sounds like the sort of thing you’d like to play, you can pledge to the campaign on Kickstarter right now. You have until May 14, 2019, at 9:00 PM EDT before you lose your chance for good.
