Bethesda Softworks has released a new Rage 2 overview trailer. This new trailer sets out to explain the game and detail what a “shooterverse” is.
Rage 2 brings together two pedigreed developers, id Software and Avalanche Studios. The former needs no introduction, having been one of the studios that essentially created the first-person shooter genre. The latter on the other hand, has a lot of experience with open-world games that feature vehicular mayhem.
These two studios coming together forms a dream team that results in what Bethesda is calling a “shooterverse.” They describe this as something that’s “more than a shooter, more than an open world game.”
In practice, the trailer shows this to be an open world where if a player sees a vehicle, they’ll have the ability to drive it—or shoot it. Avalanche Studios’ experience in the Just Cause series clearly showing off here.
The trailer also does its best to provide a succinct version of the first game’s story. Players who missed out on the first Rage won’t have to worry much here. This includes details on some of the various factions and enemies involved in the game. Also explained are what the players will need to do to these: Shoot them.
This brings us to what is likely id’s contribution to the whole shebang—the shooting. A select number of guns and other things that go boom, slice, and bang are showcased in the trailer. Additionally, it also shows a bit of the super powers that players will get to use. Of course, they’ll also get to upgrade these powers as they play the game.
Of course, these are just some of the things coming to Rage 2. When the game launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 14, it’ll come with a host of other features as well. This includes a number of cheat codes, some of which add a couple of in game announcers, including NBA Jam commentator Tim Kitzrow as well as British actor Danny Dyer.
