With Saints Row: The Third set to arrive on Nintendo Switch next week, the open-world franchise is hotter than ever before. Next up for the series is a turn onto the big screen. A Saints Row movie is in development with a talented director at the helm.
Per this report from Deadline, F. Gary Gray will direct a film based on the hit Saints Row series. He has been quite busy directing his share of blockbusters. He’s received several award nominations for the N.W.A.-themed drama Straight Outta Compton. He previously worked on The Fate of the Furious, the latest in the Fast and Furious franchise. And this summer, his latest movie, Men In Black: International, hits theaters.
Greg Russo is handling the movie’s script. He brings some gaming experience to the table, having wrote the screenplay for the forthcoming Mortal Kombat reboot. He also recently wrote a new Resident Evil script for Constantin Film.
It’s unknown which Saints Row chapter the film will be based on, but The Third seems like the safest bet. It’s the most popular entry in the series, and the most relevant among gamers. We’ll find out more as its development goes on.
Fenix Studios, Occupant Entertainment and Koch Media will serve as co-production partners on the film. As for when the movie will arrive, it’s hard to tell. We’re not sure what Gray has on his plate past Men In Black, though this is likely to be next. And you can bet that Deep Silver probably has a new Saints Row game in mind to coincide with it, something fans have been waiting on for a while. While Agents of Mayhem is good, they definitely want this series to count to five.
Meantime, if you’re looking for your kicks in the world of Saints Row, The Third releases on Nintendo Switch on May 10. It’s available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
