Risk of Rain 2 sales have crossed 1 million units in the first month of the game’s launch. The game emerged as one of the top-selling titles on Steam during its launch and it seems like Hopoo Games and Gearbox Publishing have managed to maintain the same level of success in the weeks after its launch. The strong initial sales have not made the developers complacent in any way, though — they certainly have plans to continue developing content for their game.
“We hope our first content update plants the seeds necessary to continue growing Risk of Rain 2 into an even better game for players,” a developer said in the Steam Community news post announcing the milestone. “This patch will also include quality of life updates and bug fixes! Again, as we get closer to launching this content update we will be sharing more details and even some teasers of what’s to come.”
To put things into context, Hopoo Games says that it took them nearly five years to cross the 1 million sales mark for the first Risk of Rain. It seems like the transition from 2D to 3D (alongside a hefty amount of support from Gearbox Publishing) have made the sequel a smashing success.
The future of the game certainly looks bright, too. Hopoo Games says that its next content update is going to feature content that is entirely new to the Risk of Rain universe. Players can expect a new map, a new survivor, and much more once the developers have wrapped up work on the first content update. There’s a bit more to come before that content update, though; the devs are going to be shipping patches with bug fixes and full localization first.
Risk of Rain 2 sales have certainly been strong and it seems like the developers have a solid plan for moving forward. If you don’t yet own the game, you can pick it up on Steam Early Access for $19.99 or your regional equivalent.
