God of War documentary release date

God of War documentary release date announced for May

The God of War documentary release date has been announced. This upcoming documentary showcases the journey that Sony Santa Monica Studio took in its creation of the most recent God of War game and how it fundamentally changed the franchise. Now, gamers will be able to watch this journey play out on the PlayStation YouTube channel in less than a week as it comes out on May 10, 2019, at 3:01 AM EST.

Titled Raising Kratos, the documentary about the latest God of War game will be a feature-length video that will let us get a serious look behind the scenes at Sony Santa Monica. We’ll get to see plenty of mocap work and voice acting from the talent behind the game including Christopher Judge, a man who is perhaps best known as playing Teal’c in Stargate SG-1 and being one of the people Batman beats up in The Dark Knight Rises.

One of the major highlights of the documentary is how it follows God of War Game Director Cory Barlog as the studio works hard to put the game together. He has a number of particularly choice quotes in the trailer that announced the documentary last month. One of these statements nicely sums up the overall attitude that Sony Santa Monica Studio held about their vision for the game:

“This tree is a metaphor for the franchise of God of War,” said Barlog. “And at the very beginning of the franchise, we chop that f**cker down. So that we can chop it up, and then carry it around, and then burn it.”

You can catch it on the official PlayStation YouTube channel later this week. In the meantime, check out the trailer for the God of War documentary that was released a couple of weeks ago. You can also check out some of our anniversary coverage of the game that detailed how the team made Kratos more mature, forged his axe, turned Atreus into a good ally, used cinematography to imbue the game with meaning, and how Barlog himself overcame and embraced his doubt while making the game.
