Sega Two Point Studios acquisition set to expand company’s IP

Sega Two Point Studios acquisition has been announced. Sega Europe has been working on a project called “Searchlight” which is intended to find companies with serious franchise potential to expand Sega’s catalog beyond the classics that they’re well known for. Two Point Studios has been announced to be the first company acquired by Sega through this program following their successful publishing partnership for the studios’ first game Two Point Hospital.

“We’re delighted to welcome Two Point Studios officially in to the SEGA family,” said SEGA Europe Ltd. President and COO Gary Dale in a press release. “As a relatively new, British-based developer with a global hit already under their belts, we knew we had to move quickly on this deal because they are an extremely attractive investment proposition with a great deal of talent. The Searchlight team at SEGA Europe have done a fantastic job integrating the studio over the past two years and the studio have gone on to produce a fantastic title with clear franchise potential.”

Two Point Studios was formed by a number of developers who had experience working at the legendary game developer Bullfrog Productions, a British studio that was responsible for several classic titles like Dungeon Keeper and Populous. Two Point Studios’ first title on the market was Two Point Hospital, a spiritual successor to Bullfrog’s beloved tycoon/management game Theme Hospital.

The Sega Two Point Studios acquisition brings an indie developer with a great deal of experience at making quality indie games into the fold at Sega Europe Ltd. The purchase means that Two Point will become a fully-integrated subsidiary at Sega alongside companies like Creative Assembly and Relic Entertainment.

“It’s a landmark step for Two Point Studios and we’re thrilled to be joining the SEGA family,” said Two Point Studios Co-Founder (and former Theme Park programmer) Mark Webley in a statement on the company’s website.. “We’re looking forward to executing the next phase of our plans as we continue to evolve Two Point County.”
