Some “surprising” Dragon Quest news is reportedly debuting in an upcoming issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. Weekly Shonen Jump is a Japanese manga magazine that is well-known for being the place to read the biggest shonen properties. Loads of highly-popular franchises were hosted in the magazine including Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece. In short, it’s one of the best places to make an announcement to geeks in Japan, and something will be coming for Dragon Quest.
Gematsu reports that the June 10, 2019 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump is going to have “surprising” Dragon Quest news within. The announcement first appeared in Ryokutya2089’s blog, but that’s all we know for the moment in terms of specifics. We can, however, speculate as to what this announcement will be.
There are currently two known projects underway for the Dragon Quest universe. The first is the “Voice Drama” downloadable content for Dragon Quest XI S. The exact nature of this content isn’t specified in its original announcement, but we can reasonably infer that it will likely be something along the lines of a drama CD. Drama CDs are audio plays that are popular in Japan as an additional form of media for IPs to build on their existing world or explore side stories.
The other project that may be announced in this Dragon Quest news is a Dragon Quest Monsters game that is currently in development for consoles. While the game’s existence was revealed, the developers have otherwise been light on details since then.
Of course, it’s entirely possible that this Dragon Quest news could be something else entirely. The Dragon Quest franchise has been around for a long time and the possibilities truly are endless. We could be getting a new game, an anime, a movie, or something that we couldn’t possibly predict. We’ll have to wait and see until the June 10, 2019 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump to find out.
