Square Enix will be bringing a brand new IP to its E3 2019 press conference next week. The new game Outriders announced by the company this morning looks to be a new sci-fi epic set in in the outer reaches of space.
The announcement comes with a 15-second teaser showing a person being thawed out of cryosleep. Aside from this, it gave no details aside from the fact that Square Enix would reveal more about the game at its E3 live show.
Despite this, however, Square Enix has actually been teasing Outriders for some time now. A Twitter account for the game has been making cryptic tweets since the beginning of May.
From the tweets, Outriders’ plot looks to revolve around a manned mission to a planet called “Enoch” set sometime in the mid 2070s. The tweets indicate that something has gone wrong as the heroes’ craft, the Flores, passed the Kuiper belt, causing loss of life. This event could actually lead into the events of the actual game.
In addition to this, some of the earlier tweets give some interesting background on Outriders‘s Earth during that time. The tweets describe the situation on Earth being “catastrophic.” They also refer to the mission as being “humanity’s last hope and salvation.” Also, they hint at some tension with the army and the titular “outriders.”
All of this seems to point at Outriders being some sort of space opera dealing with the future of humanity. How this story will actually plays out, and what form the game will actually take, will likely be revealed at the E3 2019 presentation.
Square Enix’s E3 live show will take place on Monday, June 10 at 9:00 PM Eastern time. Aside from Outriders, the company is expected to reveal more about its other big games, such as the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Interested fans can catch the show either on Twitch or over on Square Enix’s website.
