destroy all humans remake

Destroy All Humans remake trailer revealed, release date set for 2020

Thanks to THQ Nordic, this has been a week of cult classics returning to our consoles. First, the company revealed a remake of Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. Now, THQ Nordic and developer Black Forest Games released a trailer (via IGN) for a Destroy All Humans remake. The zany 2005 game wasn’t the biggest commercial hit, but the dedicated fanbase grew it into a cult classic worthy of re-release.

In case you missed it back in the day, Destroy All Humans is an action-adventure game that parodies the 1950’s United States. It takes pages from Cold War-era alien invasion media, combines it with the typical 1950’s lifestyle and pop culture, and unleashes an actual alien into the situation. You play as Cryptosporidium-137, an alien from the fictional Furon race. Crypto is tasked with going to Earth to retrieve human DNA so his species can continue their cloning process.

From the looks of the trailer, this remake is incredibly faithful to the wacky source material. We got to see Crypto abducting cows, blowing up road signs, and hypnotizing humans into a dance party while playing Rammstein’s “Ich Will” (because, why not?). In fact, according to THQ, the game will be an exact remake. Time to start spreading chaos and harvesting humans!

The Destroy All Humans remake is set for 2020 and will release on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Unfortunately, we only have the trailer to go on for now. There is yet to be a more definitive release date than 2020, and we haven’t seen any gameplay. There’s no word if there will be a Nintendo Switch port, either. That said, this was yet another completely unexpected and fun re-release from THQ Nordic. Fans of other old IPs such as TimeSplitters, which THQ Nordic purchased last year, are eagerly awaiting their day in the spotlight. If the current trend is anything to go by, maybe there’s hope!
