E3 2019 | Marvel’s Avengers game isn’t coming to Nintendo Switch

The Marvel’s Avengers game from Square Enix has had its platforms confirmed, and Nintendo Switch isn’t among them. It was revealed this morning that the upcoming game, which is set to be unveiled during the Square Enix E3 2019 presentation, will launch on PS4,  Xbox One, PC, and even the Google Stadia, but it won’t make its way to Nintendo’s latest console.

The news was revealed in a tweet from the official @PlayAvengers Twitter account, alongside the tagline ‘#EmbraceYourPowers.’ While it was expected that the game would launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the news that it will make its way to the Stadia is somewhat unexpected. With the Nintendo Switch not being as technically powerful as its peers, it was possible that Marvel’s Avengers would come to the system in downgraded form, but it seems that won’t be the case.

The tweet can be viewed below:

Marvel fans who own a Switch will get a superhero game of their very own shortly, with Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order set to launch exclusively on the home/handheld console hybrid. However, while a new Ultimate Alliance game has been requested for years now, Marvel’s Avengers is one of the most highly-anticipated upcoming games. Its absence from the Switch will therefore be disappointing, even though few expected it would launch on the system.

Marvel’s Avengers was announced all the way back in January 2017, when it was revealed the Square had signed a multi-year deal with Marvel to release a series of games based on its comic books. With The Avengers never receiving a proper console/PC tie-in game during its cinematic run, it’s hoped that Marvel’s Avengers will make up for lost time by providing Marvel fans with an exciting (albeit belated) adaptation.

We’ll learn more about the game during Square’s E3 presentation next week, with its release date expected to be announced during the event.
