At the PC Gaming Show today publisher Rebellion had a number of new games to show, including the upcoming James Bond villain management sim Evil Genius 2. The biggest surprise, however, was not the expected reveal of Sniper Elite 5, but rather a new game in the wackier Sniper Elite spin-off series Nazi Zombie Army. It’s called Zombie Army 4: Dead War, it’s being worked on by the Sniper Elite 4 team, and it’ll be out in 2020. We’ve got the first trailer below.
The Zombie Army games are essentially Sniper Elite crossed with Left 4 Dead. They’re best played in co-op (although they can be played in single-player), and feature up to four players making their way through zombie-infested levels. They’re set during an alternate ending to World War 2 where Hitler unleashed an undead army rather than admit defeat. The first three games in the series were collected as Zombie Army Trilogy in 2015, and many thought that the Rebellion Zombie Army team had transitioned to the similar but more Indiana Jones-style Strange Brigade instead. Apparently not.
Zombie Army 4 trailer and first details revealed
You can check out the first trailer for Zombie Army 4 above. It introduces a charred zombie with a flamethrower (which can be picked up after the zombie’s killed) and includes Sniper Elite‘s trademark x-ray sniper shots, although these were in the previous games too. Undead Hitler seems to be back, despite the team having sent him to Hell in the third game. It looks like at least two characters from the series are back, specifically sniper Karl Fairburne and mustached Russian Boris Medvedev.
Zombie Army 4: Dead War has a vague release date of early 2020, and will be released on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. On PC it will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store for 12 months, after which it will go to Steam.
