Update: Over on the game’s Kickstarter page, further confirmation of the Shenmue 3 Epic Games Store exclusive was provided. Yes, the game will be exclusive to the Epic Store. At the time of writing, PC players won’t be able to buy Shenmue 3 on Steam.
“Shenmue III for PC will be will be an Epic Games Store exclusive. Development for Shenmue III has been moving forward using Unreal Engine and the support we have received from Epic has been excellent. But most importantly, in looking for the most enjoyable experience on PC, it was decided together with Deep Silver after much discussion that the Epic Games Store would be the best distribution platform option.”
The PC Gaming E3 2019 conference dedicated a fair bit of time to Shenmue 3, featuring an interview with the game’s developers and also showcasing a new trailer. Curiously, the trailer ended with an Epic Games Store logo, hinting at potential exclusivity. So, is Shenmue 3 Epic Games Store exclusive?
Is Shenmue 3 Epic Games Store exclusive?
The Shenmue 3 PC Gaming E3 2019 showcase finished with an end screen displaying the Epic Games Store logo, but it isn’t yet clear whether the game will be an Epic exclusive. Despite the absence of a Steam logo, the game is still available to add to a wishlist on the Valve storefront.
Game director Yu Suzuki took the PC Gaming E3 2019 stage to discuss the game. He didn’t mention anything specific to the PC platform, only information that applies to all supported platforms. Following the new trailer (embedded below) which featured the Epic Games Store logo, Suzuki still failed to make clear whether Shenmue 3 would be an Epic Games Store exclusive.
For now, players on both Steam and the Epic Games Store will be able to enjoy the “eagerly anticipated continuation of the epic story-driven saga.”
At the time of writing, the game is still listed as being available on Steam with a planned release date of November 19, 2019.
