Conan Chop Chop

E3 2019 | Conan Chop Chop is real and not an April Fool’s joke

The PC Gaming Show at E3 2019 has just concluded and it brought with it a number of surprises, but arguably the biggest (or most ridiculous) was the reveal of a game that was announced a few months ago, but no one noticed. Conan Chop Chop was shown off on April 1 this year, and everyone presumed it was an April Fool’s joke. It wasn’t. It’s very real, and we got the first proper Conan Chop Chop gameplay trailer at the PC Gaming Show. You can check it out below.

Conan Chop Chop is a 2D Legend of Zelda-like Conan the Barbarian game, except decidedly more silly, as the title and announcement trailer clearly make clear. It’s a rogue-like with a simple and very chibi-cartoony art style, and contains co-op gameplay (or possibly single-player with party members), looting, dungeons filled traps and treasures, character upgrades, and plenty of enemies, including giant bosses wearing capes. Monsters shown include werewolves, zombies, skeleton soldiers, and what appear to be brain spiders (spiders with a body that looks like a brain)?

It’s being made by Mighty Kingdom, who are teaming up with Conan gaming license holders Funcom to make this joke come to life. Considering we only just got a top-down Conan the Barbarian game, the more strategic and definitely more serious RTS Conan Unconquered from Petroglyph, it’s a surprise that this game’s out this year. It honestly it looks all kinds of awesome, which is what everyone said about the April Fool’s Day gag trailer. It’ll be out fairly soon too, as the release date is September 3. It’ll be released on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. You can check out the full new trailer below, at which point you’ll probably be forced to confess that it does look more than a little fun.
