Shenmue 3 refund

Shenmue 3 refund reportedly denied to fans following Epic Games Store exclusivity announcement

Shenmue 3 refund is being sought by irate players following an announcement made at yesterday’s PC Gaming Show 2019Shenmue 3 is going to be coming exclusively to the Epic Games Store on PC. A number of comments show that people are (unsurprisingly) rather upset about this, especially since the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter promised a Steam version of the game. Unfortunately, it seems that the team behind this third game in the Shenmue franchise aren’t letting them get one according to reports from some backers.

As Destructoid reports, the game’s Kickstarter update announcing Epic Games Store exclusivity is filled with comments of people seeking their Shenmue 3 refund. No information was given about how to get a refund in the Kickstarter update, so fans reached out on their own and got a disappointing reply from the people behind the game.

“Thank you very much for contacting us,” began an official reply posted in the comments by one of the backers. “The launch was previously planned for distribution on Steam, however it was decided together with Deep Silver after much discussion that the Epic Games Store would be the best distribution platform option.”

Shenmue 3 will be distributed through the Epic Games Store and will require the Epic Games Store Client to activate,” the publisher’s reply continued. “We apologize for the sudden change in platform, however, refunds will not be granted for this change. We thank you for your support and look forward to delivering the Shenmue experience fans everywhere have been waiting so long for.”

Some fans have stated that they are going to seek alternate methods to get a Shenmue 3 refund including going to their payment processor directly. However, that is not enough to satisfy the anger that a portion of the fans are developing, with some stating that they are flagging the Kickstarter campaign and/or reporting YS Net for false advertising since they have failed to deliver the promised Steam version.

The anger was further reflected in the like/dislike ratio of the game’s PC Gaming Show 2019 trailer; it currently stands at 538 likes versus 1.9K dislikes. Fans in the comments are joking about how it’s really cool that Shenmue 3 has been announced as “a Pirate Bay exclusive”, alluding to the fact that some people are now going to pirate it since the Steam version has been pushed back. Comments in the Steam news post announcing the exclusivity show a similar level of unhappiness (to say the least).

Shenmue 3 will be coming to Steam later at an indeterminate date. In the meantime, you can watch the PC Gaming Show 2019 trailer below to see some brand-new footage.
