Beenox has revealed its plans for Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled post-launch content, focusing around themed seasons. As the first of these seasons, the Nitro Tour Grand Prix arrives on July 3 and brings with it a new playable character, Tawna Bandicoot.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Beenox spilled the beans on the upcoming Nitro Tour Grand Prix. Tawna Bandicoot will be leading a pack of other female bandicoot racers called the Nitro Squad. This comprises of Ami, Isabella, Megumi, and Liz, who fans may remember as the Trophy Girls from the original Crash Team Racing.
Players can unlock each member of the Nitro Squad using Wumpa Coins in the game’s Pit Stop. Tawna, however, must be earned by by using Nitro Points earned during the Grand Prix.
Each Grand Prix acts as a themed “season” that revolves around a new track added to the game. Each free track comes with a number of challenges that players can complete to earn Nitro Points to fill up their Nitro Gauge. Filling the Nitro Gauge up past certain levels earns players a number of rewards. These rewards range from karts, skins, kart customization items, and of course, characters like Tawna.
The Nitro Tour Grand Prix adds the Twilight Tour track. This track revisits the Ancient Egypt and Arabian Town levels from Crash Bandicoot: Warped.
Other items coming to the Nitro Tour Grand Prix include international-themed items as well as new kart parts. Additionally, the fan-favorite Le Chaux kart from Crash Tag Team Racing will also be added to the game.
Speaking of Crash Tag Team Racing, the chicken reporters from that game, Chick Gizzard Lips and Stew, return as the hosts of the in-game CTR TV. Chick and Stew are the hosts for each new Grand Prix season. Players can simply tune into CTR TV in-game to learn more about the challenges and rewards that each Grand Prix season brings.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on June 21.
