Everyone always gives me shit for like Mirror's Edge. You know what? Screw you guys. Mirror's Edge was a fun, if unimpressive game, with a neat concept, a hero that wasn't a bald fucking space marine who shot everything that moved, and allowed DICE to spread its wings and try something genuinely new. That's why I'm happy to report we might be learning all about Mirror's Edge 2 very soon.
I say might because this time it's an Amazon Germany listing giving us the impression that Electronic Arts will trot out onto Microsoft's stage at E3 and reveal that Mirror's Edge 2 is also part of the publisher's deal for Xbox One software. Amazon Germany has leaked these kinds of announcements in the past with accuracy, but let's each take a grain of salt anyway.
Still, it's not implausible; EA has stated that they believe Mirror's Edge is a valuable property worth developing a sequel for (get ready for it, because they've done it three times).
- In 2011, EA reps said that Mirror's Edge is "an important franchise" despite earlier reports that a sequel had been canceled.
- Later that year EA Games label president Frank Gibeau said Mirror's Edge 2 and Frostbite 2 could be combined.
- Once more that summer EA confirmed that they were working on a project.
EA's response to IGN stated that they appreciated the enthusiasm from fans, but that the placeholder box art wasn't official EA material. "We have nothing to announce at this time." Not a confirmation but certainly far from an outright denial.
One thing's for sure, if EA were to reveal a new Mirror's Edge game, they'd do it at E3, where GameRevolution will be reporting live, covering every press conference as it happens and bringing back tons of hands-on previews, impressions, intereviews, news and more.
