Atlus is no stranger to crossovers involving the characters from its Persona games. As such, the Catherine: Full Body Joker and the Phantom Thieves DLC should come as no surprise to longtime fans.
Now, before any fans become too excited, only Joker is becoming a playable character in Atlus’s racy block-climbing game. Specifically, Persona 5‘s main protagonist will be playable in the game’s “Babel” and “Colosseum” modes—he won’t actually be involved in the game’s story.
The rest of the Phantom Thieves, however, will be sitting this caper out. That said, while they’ll be on the sidelines, they won’t exactly be quiet. Rather, the gang will be providing commentary during matches, with voice-overs once again provided by Persona 5‘s original English voice cast.
The “Persona 5 Character Joker & Phantom Thieves Commentary Set” originally came as a preorder bonus for the Japanese release of Catherine: Full Body last February. Now, Atlus has confirmed that it’s coming for free with the Catherine: Full Body Digital Deluxe Edition in the West. Of course, those who don’t purchase this edition will be able buy the DLC set normally as well.
Catherine: Full Body is an enhanced remake of the original Catherine which released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2012. The game now runs on the same engine powering Persona 5. In terms of its story, Full Body adds a new character Rin. This amnesiac pianist gets involved in the already complicated love triangle between main character Vincent and the two “Catherines” (Catherine and Katherine) from the original game.
In addition to this, the game comes with a number of gameplay and difficulty tweaks. It will also come with online multiplayer, a feature the original game didn’t have. Indeed, players actually had to unlock Catherine‘s bonus versus mode by completing the game. However, the mode proved surprisingly popular with fans, who have gone as far as to host tournaments for it.
Catherine: Full Body arrives on PlayStation 4 in the West on September 3.
