If you want to check out Final Fantasy XIV before you buy it, whether or not you want to play from PC or PS3, you'll soon have an opportunity.
FFXIV's Beta phase 3 begins June 14th following several announcements that will be made at E3. Two of the three city states, Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa, are confirmed to be included. More importantly, PS3 players will be able to play for their first time after years of waiting.
Below is the press announcement:
Beta phase 3 introduces the PlayStation®3 version of the game into the mix for the very first time and PlayStation®3 gamers will be able to experience the captivating world of Eorzea alongside PC players due to the game’s cross-platform functionality. Beta phase 3 testers will also gain access to a huge amount of new content, including the introduction of the city states of Ul’dah and Limsa Lominsa.
Unfortunately, phase 3 is still considered closed beta so an invite is required to participate. That said, Square Enix is expected to send out thousands of invites to begin testing as much as possible before the game's release on August 27th.
If you didn't already know, a new job was confirmed for the game this week: Scholar. That brings the game's total classes and jobs to a staggering 17. If you were a fan of Final Fantasy Tactics' or Final Fantasy V's diverse class sytems, then this game may be right up your alley. You won't find another MMO on the market that lets you switch between so many interesting roles with one character.
