Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega39’s Switch release date announced

Famous Japanese idol Hatsune Miku is bringing the Nintendo Switch its first rhythm game. The Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega39’s Switch release date is early 2020 in Japan. As of now, no Western release plans have been announced.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega39’s has been developed by Sega AM Research & Development No. 2. The rhythm game will include 101 songs, including 100 songs from across the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva series and some re-recorded hits. It also offers over 300 costumes for players to choose from and new game modes specifically made for the Switch. While the details of the new modes are as yet unknown, for now, fans can check out the updated visuals and teaser trailer to tide them over in the wait for more information.

As of now, a few in-game tracks have been confirmed. Some of the confirmed ones include “Decorator” by Kz, “Odds & Ends” by Ryo, and “Rolling Girl” by Wowaka. There are also 10 songs that are newly-recorded and making their debut in Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega39’s. These 10 new songs will also be available in 2020 on the PlayStation 4 title Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Future Tone as paid DLC. More details of that DLC will be announced later this year.

For anyone unfamiliar with the peppy, colorful character of Hatsune Miku and her rhythm games, a quick recap may help out. Hatsune Miku is a Vocaloid, or a completely synthesized singer, and is, in this case, represented with the avatar of an anime girl. Hatsune Miku has risen to worldwide stardom and is often recognized even by those who don’t entirely know who she is. The digital performer even bizarrely appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman in 2014. She is the main character in the titular Hatsune Miku: Project Diva series of rhythm games. In standard rhythm game form, these games involve selecting a song and pressing buttons in time to the music. Difficulty varies and new difficulties and songs are unlocked by completing others.

Keep an eye out for more updates as the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega39’s Switch release draws near. Until then, check out the trailer below, which includes the game teaser at the end.
