Fire Emblem Three Houses hardest difficulty DLC coming

Fire Emblem: Three Houses hardest difficulty DLC coming

The Fire Emblem series has developed a reputation for being challenging thanks to the its permadeath system. Now, it looks like the latest game in the series will up the challenge even more. Nintendo has announced that Fire Emblem: Three Houses will be getting its hardest difficulty setting after launch.

In an interview with Famitsu, Fire Emblem: Three Houses director Genki Yokota revealed that the game would be getting its Lunatic Mode as part of a free post-launch update. However, Yokota didn’t reveal when the update would hit; rather, he simply asked players to “wait just a little bit.”

First introduced in the Japan only Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, Lunatic Mode adds a number of tweaks to the game to make it even more challenging than it already is. This includes adding more enemies, while also changing the way the AI plays the game, often having it seek out to kill the player’s units as fast as possible.

Even without Lunatic Mode, Fire Emblem: Three Houses already provides players a number of ways to adjust its difficulty. First up, the game comes with the traditional “Normal” and “Hard” modes. In addition to this, the game also has a secondary toggle between “Classic” and “Casual” modes. Switching from “Classic” to “Casual” mode has the game disable the series’ vaunted permadeath system.

Of course, Fire Emblem: Three Houses will be getting more than just Lunatic Mode after launch. The Nintendo has also announced an expansion pass for the game. This pass will include new maps, new officer academy outfits, and more. This content will be slowly added into the game after release up until April of next year. Aside from this, Intelligent System confirmed that it would also be adding further free updates to the game after launch. With this in mind, it looks like Fire Emblem fans have a lot to look forward to after Three Houses releases on Switch this Friday.
