Ubisoft Admits Rayman Legends Delay Due To Poor Wii U Install Base

Rayman Legends was originally supposed to be released earlier this year exclusively for Wii U but has since been delayed to September, and will launch on the PlayStation Vita, PS3, and Xbox 360 as well.

The reason behind this, disappointing as it may be for Nintendo fans, is fairly obvious, but Ubi has finally come forward to spell it out. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explained to VentureBeat:

What happened was that we saw the Wii U was not going to sell enough of those games. The game is going to be fantastic, and we didn’t want those creators to wind up in a position where even after making a fantastic game, they didn’t sell well enough.

We decided that we had to come out on enough machines that players can try it out on any one that they have, and give more time to both improve the game on the Wii U and create versions for the other consoles.

Sounds reasonable enough to me. Still, it only makes the Wii U's situation appear all the more dire. Do you think Ubisoft made the right choice? Provide your two cents in the comments below.
