The new Dragon Ball Legend of Time and Space MMORPG has been revealed by Bandai Namco. This game is being developed for PC by Giant Network, a Shanghai-based studio that was founded in 1989 and specializes in massively multiplayer online games.
Dragon Ball Legend of Time and Space was showcased at ChinaJoy 2019 and is aiming to fill a serious gap for anime fans. Bandai Namco is known for releasing action and RPG games based on the Dragon Ball franchise such as the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, but a full-fledged MMORPG is something that is much harder to come by. Netmarble’s free-to-play Dragon Ball Online comes to mind, but it ended up being canceled in 2013, leaving many Dragon Ball fans without an alternative.

According to MMOCulture, Dragon Ball Legend of Time and Space will feature four playable races: Saiyan, Earthling, Majin, and Namekian. There isn’t much additional info doing the rounds, but many gamers in China were able to try the Dragon Ball Legend of Time and Space MMORPG during the brief closed beta tests that took place back in January and May 2019. This led to several videos showing the gameplay and character creation, as well as revealing other details.
This is not a true open world MMORPG in the sense of the word, since the map is divided in several smaller areas. There is an auto-pathfinding feature in case you want your character to automatically run to the next quest objective, but you’ll have to take over when you need to battle or perform some specific actions. Your hero can’t jump into the water, however, and there are reports of a substantial amount of invisible walls blocking paths. Combat also appears to be tab-targeting, for what it’s worth.
There is no launch date for Dragon Ball Legend of Time and Space just yet, but a global release seems unlikely at this point. Unless it turns out to be a massive success in Asian territories, it’s doubtful that Bandai Namco will bother localizing it for other regions.
