Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn’s story is being condensed

As many MMORPGs receive more content, they face the issue of players getting left behind due to how massive that content is. Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 14 happens to be one such game. Now, the company has announced an impending rework of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn‘s story to help players catch up.

The announcement came as part of a recent Final Fantasy 14 “Letter from the Producer” livestream in Japan. While the announcement was in Japanese, a community representative quickly translated it over on the game’s official forums.

According to the translation, the team is reworking the base game’s main story line to make it “more compact.” It did not state any further details on how the team planned to do this. However, it did mention that the team is aiming for it to arrive with patch version 5.3.

The patch 5.3 target does indicate that the rework isn’t coming for some time. The game is currently only at version 5.0. However Square Enix is set to release a version 5.1 patch in the near future.

The rest of the livestream focused on changes coming in the version 5.1 patch. It mentioned things such as new glamour and character customization items as well as a “fundamental” change to how stealth works in the game. It also revealed a new social feature that lets players create a “Circle” of friends for certain activities, while also receiving notifications related to them.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn launched, or more accurately re-launched, in August of 2013. Since then, the game has received three major expansions: Heavensward, Stormblood, and the recently released Shadowbringers. In addition to this, a fourth expansion for the game has been confirmed to be in development. With this in mind, a rework of A Realm Reborn’s story to make it much faster to play through could be just what the doctor ordered.
