Gears 5 Horde Mode has made its official debut at Gamescom 2019, heralding the return of one of the most iconic features of the Gears of War franchise. It’s always a ton of fun to get together with your buddies and mow down wave after wave of enemies, and Gears 5 is all set to bring this great game mode back with some upgrades for the new generation.
One of the highlights of the Gears 5 Horde Mode is the introduction of Ultimate abilities. Each of the characters in this returning game mode will have a unique Ultimate ability that can help turn the tide of battle in a pitched firefight. And if you’ve been wondering about the crossover characters, the answer is indeed yes — they too will have Ultimate abilities. Sarah Connor certainly had no problem fighting off killer robots and she’ll be able to use that same moxy in her fight against the terrifying foes of the Gears franchise.

Next month, Gears 5 Horde Mode will be making its return for players to enjoy everywhere. You and up to four of your friends will face off against increasingly-strong waves of enemies, leveling up skills and working as a team in your efforts to beat back the bad guys.
The Ultimate abilities will be particularly important here. JD can bring down an airstrike on the enemy, while Kait can cloak to aid in escaping from a tricky situation. Build defenses, collect power, and level up your team! A new “Power Taps” mechanic will also incentivize players to keep their bases moving around to earn more power and rewards.
That’s not all that’s new in Gears 5 Horde Mode, mind, as you’ll also be able to step beyond the traditional Gears of War-style heroes with Jack. Jack has no need for cover and can buff friendly players who are close enough or hack enemies, bring a new kind of support element to this intense game mode.
You’ll be able to play Gears 5 Horde Mode when it drops next month.
