The Witcher Netflix release date

The Witcher Netflix release date all but confirmed by executive producer

Fans of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and CD Projekt’s video game adaptations, which take the form of the acclaimed The Witcher RPG series, will no doubt be excited to learn that the upcoming Netflix series may have just gained a release date. Previously listed for a nondescript 2019 launch, an executive producer offered some clarification on The Witcher Netflix release date in a Twitter thread announcing that “all major filming has wrapped.”

Giovanni Eūgene Altamarquéz, who’s been working with Netflix for more than five years, announced that some minor reshoots are nonetheless still taking place following the “recasting of a major character.” It’s currently unclear who this character is, though it certainly isn’t leading man Henry Cavill, best known for his role as Superman and now the live-action Geralt of Rivia. Excitingly for fans, Cavill is right there with them as an established fan of both the books and the games, having previously gone on record to say that he’d “love” to play the sword-wielding lead character.

The series has now entered post-production, with the team of editors hoped to have a final cut finished by the “end of Oct.” It seems as though no time will be wasted in getting eyeballs on the series thereafter, with Altamarquéz stating that Friday, November 1 is a “likely release date.” As is customary for Netflix and the binge-watching culture it cultivates, it seems as though all episodes of the debut season would be made available on that potential release date, as the now-deleted tweet contained references “episodes” plural.

Later Altamarquéz reiterates that The Witcher on Netflix will be an adaptation of Sapkowski’s books and not CD Projekt’s video games, which might come as a disappointment to some of the fans that were introduced to Geralt and company through the electronic medium. Regardless, the series is sure to feature the monster-slaying action and rich cast of characters that make the games so beloved, so be sure to tentatively mark your calendars for a “likely” November 1 release date.
