It’s been nearly a year since EA first announced Command and Conquer Remastered. Now, the publisher has finally dropped some new details about the game. A new gameplay teaser confirmed that Command and Conquer Remastered will feature the same 2D graphical style as the original, only in high definition.
EA shared the news via a video post on Reddit. The teaser video shows some gameplay from the 1995 original, before seamlessly transitioning to a high definition version of the same scene from the upcoming game. In addition to this, the video actually showcases another feature coming to the game — the ability to switch between the original and remastered art.

“When we recovered the source code to C&C Tiberian Dawn and C&C Red Alert, this gave us a viable avenue to accurately match the core gameplay, feel, and signature look of the legacy titles,” stated producer Jim Vessella in an post accompanying the teaser on Reddit. “We felt the 2D style was the best way to bring all these elements together, and ultimately achieve the authenticity we were looking for.”
As part of this, Vessella confirmed that the decision to keep the game 2D is what allowed them the ability to let players switch between classic and remastered art styles in real-time. Additionally, Vessella also confirmed that the game would also allow players to zoom the screen out much further, something actually demonstrated in the teaser.
To help players better wrap their heads around what has been done for Remastered, EA has also opened up a website to show off the changes. Here, fans can play check out a couple of in-game scenes, using sliders to compare the original and remastered art (though the latter has some assets that are clearly still a work-in-progress).
Of course, the visuals shown off cover only the Tiberian Dawn side of things. Sadly, EA has yet to show anything from Red Alert. Hopefully, we’ll get to see some of the graphical updates to that soon.
