With today’s launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, fans are understandably hyped about this upgraded Halo experience. Some, however, might be wondering about the possibilities of Halo: The Master Chief Collection mods. There’s good and bad news on that front! Mods are going to be supported in a small way at launch (and likely in a much bigger way down the line).
A weekly discussion thread recently opened up on the /r/Halo subreddit. Some players took the time to ask questions from the community regarding their thoughts on the game, and one such question was directed towards the topic of Halo: The Master Chief Collection mods.

“Hey gang quick question, might interest some of you…” one comment began. “So, [do] we think mod support will come in? Anyone remember the days of stealth bombers you could walk inside, use to drop nukes and HUGE maps with massive waves of AI? Imagine the possibilities in 2019/20. Anyone got any [confirmation] it’s happening?”
Perhaps unexpectedly, a 343 employee chimed in a reply, confirming that they’re working on mod support but also noting that it won’t be out in time for the game’s launch. However, there is one interesting surprise that should be available from day 1.
“Hi! We’re still working to improve this down the road, but for now you will have an option when you launch to bypass [anti-cheat],” the comment from a 343 employee stated. “This will allow you to play around with campaign and customs but not allow you to play any [matchmade] games. I highly suggest making a copy/backup of anything you modify so you’ll be able to switch back and forth easily.”
So, will there be official support for Halo: The Master Chief Collection mods? At launch, there will just be a button to turn off anti-cheat so the more practiced modders can tinker with the code. Hopefully, some sort of more official support will be arriving sooner rather than later.
