Puma is charging $160 for ‘Gaming Socks’

Puma is selling ‘gaming socks’ for $160 AUD, with the footwear allegedly intended to provide “support and grip” that will allow gamers to “game their best.” The expensive socks apparently have four different modes — seek, attack, cruise, and defense — which will somehow help people play video games better while wearing them.

The ‘Active Gaming Footwear’ is available to purchase on the Australian and New Zealand Puma stores, with them retailing for $160 Australian dollars and $180 New Zealand dollars, or roughly $110 US dollars.

“Created with console gamers in mind, the gaming sock is the first edition Active Gaming Footwear,” the product’s description reads. “Designed for indoor and in-arena use, it delivers seamless comfort, support and grip so gamers can adapt to different active gaming modes and game their best.”

The Active Gaming Footwear features an “engineered knitted upper for comfort and breathability,” while it also boasts wrap-up stability that presumably helps with grip. It’s unclear how exactly this benefits those playing video games, an activity but at a lofty $160 AUD, it seems that Puma is confident these socks do something.
