Telltale Games is considering moving away from episodic releases

Telltale Games could move away from episodic releases, with the developer reconsidering its approach to game distribution. Following LCG Entertainment’s acquisition of the Telltale name, CEO Jamie Ottilie has said that the company is now looking to rethink its former business model.

Telltale previously released its games in episodes, with there often being lengthy gaps between each installment. Speaking to GameDaily.biz, Ottilie explained that the studio will now finish each episode in a game before the first episode is released.

“We are creating the stories episodically, but how they will be released is still to be determined,” Otillie said. “I think the important distinction here is that we will no longer be developing episodically. If we do release the game in episodes, all of them will be ready before the first one hits the store.”

This means that Telltale would be able to employ stricter release dates for each new episode, or it could opt to release all episodes simultaneously. The Wolf Among Us 2 is set to be Telltale’s next project, so we’ll have to wait and see which route “Telltale 2.0” opts to head in.
